Sampling Sediment in Hypersaline Lagoon inside El Turrumote Key
Following a spring sampling trip to the hypersaline lagoon located inside the remote and beautiful El Turrumote key, where we found cool anaerobic ciliates that do not like to be cultivated, we had to return. Some days things don't go as smooth but can still turn into fun experience! Our boat just stopped on our way to the sampling site. We thought we'll have to head back and cancel the trip. Fortunately, Frank Lazu, our awesome department diver master, captain, zen panda, and chef in one person, has come to our rescue, fixed the boat in instant, and we could head towards the dark skyline and dramatic relief of Turrumote Island, where we sampled sediment in the hypersaline lagoon! What a day!
